structuralStructural Designs

Once Planning Permission has been obtained (where relevant), structural designs are required for submission to obtain Building Regulations, Party Wall agreements and sometimes, Thames Water approvals.

Works include extensions, new builds, refurbishments, strengthening, and all other structural alterations to buildings. We have extensive experience and knowledge in a variety of schemes from removal of load bearing walls to new builds including residential, commercial and public buildings. We have sound knowledge of Health and Safety and CDM (construction, Design and Management) regulations.

All our designs are covered by A Professional Indemnity Policy.

Our objectives is to provide our clients and professionals such as Architects and Surveyors a comprehensive package which includes structural analysis and designs, details and specifications, advice on temporary supports to enable necessary approvals, party wall agreements and construction.

We work closely with builders too to ensure works run smoothly and on target.

We aim to provide designs to meet client’s requirements both in terms of visual prospective and value for money designs.

Structural surveys are normally required for two purposes.

Firstly, to carry out an assessment of the building for change of use i.e.: if additional load can be carried by the structure and where structural alterations are made an assessment is required to check the impact on the existing structure.

Secondly, where a building has undergone cracking, distortion and/or deflection.

We carry out surveys to assess why this has occurred and often are required to instigate investigations such as ground/soil investigations, tree root analysis and drain (CCTV) surveys to enable us to assess what remedial measures are necessary. Also, monitoring over a period of time can be recommended to assess if movement is progressive.

On completion of all the investigations, the engineer will compile a final report with recommendations and budget costs for the remedial works required.

These can include underpinning, strengthening, structural repairs or just minor repairs only.
